命令形で愛は言えない?

I have used サラダ記念日(Salad Anniversary) to teach 短歌 to my students for many years.

「また電話しろよ」「待ってろ」いつもいつも命令形で愛をいう君

This 短歌 is one of the hardest poems for Japanese language learners to understand the concept. Many of former students mine thought the author would not be happy because her boyfriend was rude.

In order to appreciate this message, you need to learn about 少女マンガの世界 (The world of girls' comic).

In Japan, many girls like the boys who are quiet, not friendly, and do not show their feeling. The main characters of love dramas are often boys who are not sweet.

Japanese girls are longing for the moment that such boys treat them to be more intimate by using the imperative form. The imperative forms are only used between very close relationship such as family members in daily conversation. Otherwise those forms are used between the police and the criminal, military commands, and the sport coach and trainees.

The nuance of the effect of 命令形 is hard to explain to English native speakers. But you use the form to express their love in English

such as:Be mine.

Marry me.don't you?
