Winter trip in Japan (Snow Monkey Park) Part 1

We visited our family in Japan in December, 2017. This is my travel blog to visit the world famous Snow Monkey Park (jigokudani onsen) in Nagano.

The park locates in Yudanaka, Nagano. You will take a local train from Nagano station.

We took the Snow Monkey train from Nagano to Yudanaka. It is not JR so we could not use your Japan Rail Pass. It takes about 45 minutes by super express one. They do not sell food/drink on the train. Get your food and drink at the Nagano station.

You need to take a bus from the Yudanaka station to the Kan-bayashi onsen, then walk to the entrance. We stayed an inn (ryokan) near the park, so the staff from the inn picked up us at the station.

The inn we stayed locates at the entrance of the snow monkey park path. Please see Part 2 for the information about the inn.

It is about 1 mile walk from the entrance to the park. The road is slippery. You need to wear snow/rain boots.

It is almost there when you see these scenery.

We finally reached the park admission office. The entrance fee was 800 yen for an adult and 400 yen for a child (as of December, 2017).

Yes! we found monkeys. The day was cold enough for monkeys to be in the hot water. They do not take bath in warm days.

After a long 2 miles walk, it was heaven to be in onsen (hot spring)!!

Please visit Part 2!!
